All of our team are highly trained and are consistently pushing themselves forward to harness new skills to add to their extensive knowledge base.
That knowledge in print amounts to 192 years for 6 employees.
What makes us so different from other printing companies:-
- The ability to respond very quickly to any request (we have endorsements from many customers praising our customer service)
- Our skill sets are highly prized in the printing industry – we print for many other larger printing companies.
We specialise in short run next day printing. Anything from one to thousands of copies.
Many jobs come into us in the morning and are delivered in the afternoon.
The type of printing equipment we have invested in enables us to specialise in that short print run, fast turnaround arena, known as Digital Print
Our History in Bedford
We thought it would be nice to tell you a little about our history.
Stonebridges Printers Ltd is without doubt the oldest printers in Bedfordshire. We started trading in June 1898. 113 years ago.
We were based at the end of Midland Road under the railway bridge, near the old Focus DIY store, trading from what looked like an old shed!
We then moved into a shop with a printing works at the back, next to the old Bedford Modern School building in the town centre, where the Harpur centre is now. During the Re-development of the town centre we relocated to a purpose built building in Brereton Road.
Printing for the first 70 years remained largely unchanged, printing from solid metal and wooden type.
In late seventies lithographic printing was introduced – which is basically printing from a flat metal plate, rather than solid type.
In the mid 80’s we introduced photo-type setting – an all in one very basic computer and printer. A system like this then cost £23,000
We purchased our first apple mac in summer of 1994, with an A3 laser printer & software it was over £10,000.
From the mid 90’s technology moved very quickly, in no time we had a network of apple Macs and pc’s running ever changing software enabling us to print in colourful, more imaginative ways
